Mac Mini Redux
About every six months, it hits me.
Suddenly, and without warning I will wake up in the morning and say to myself "Why don't I have a Mac?"
And for the next few days, I will go through all the associated shit - talking to friends and relatives, hoping that they won't ask me the hard questions about why I actually want one. You know, like "What would you use it for?"
The honest answer is "I have no idea." At first, I wanted to learn OSX. Then I played with it in the Apple store for a little bit, and I can get nearly the same prettiness, effects, and *nix goodness from booting up Linux. Then I thought maybe there would be some cool apps to play with - but when I looked through the list of available applications, only one app looked even remotely promising: Terminal. That's right, the fucking command line. Also in Linux.
Then I think about getting the new hardware, and how cool it is.
Not really, though. Yeah, it's small - and I could use it as a Virtualization server because it has a VT processor in it, but... it's small. There can't be much for cooling in a case that small, so when I really actually *use* the damned thing, it's going to heat up and fry itself.
Then, finally, I thought that it would be really cool to try running Windows apps in some virtualization software like Parallels or VMWare Fusion.
Then I realized that I can already do that. On Windows.
So, again, I decided that the $606 it would have cost me could be better spent elsewhere.
At least for another six months.
