On Thin Ice
I don't typically talk about politics on my blog because I really don't like getting into it. I think that it divides people in a very damaging way, and destroys otherwise tight friendships.
That being said, I have to mention this.
GWB pardoned Scooty Libby's jail sentence today, claiming that it was unjust or unfair or perhaps a word that he just made up. We can be sure that this sort of thing will continue until he's out of office, as well. His administration doesn't seem too worried about following the letter or the spirit of the law.
He's setting a terrible example for the children of this country - as long as you're in power, the rules don't apply to you.
He's setting a terrible example for the voters of this country - your opinion doesn't matter.
He's destroying this country from the inside and out - the voters don't think he's doing a remotely good job, and other countries hate him, and, as an extension, us.
The pardoning of Libby's sentence is just the latest in a long series of middle fingers to the American people.
Fuzzy posted about contacting his senators and representatives about this. I've contacted mine to voice my concerns, and - if you feel that this administration is ruining the reputation of this country and it's citizens - I encourage you to do the same. Leave whatever message you like, it's up to you. Just do something.
The American people seem to be too fat, lazy and comfortable to get enraged about anything anymore. There are some places in the world where this sort of action by a government official would cause a coup because the people are fed up with being abused and misrepresented. I just want to remind people that the only reason we can be fat, lazy and comfortable is because some people got sick of not being fat, lazy and comfortable in the late 1700s.
I'm not recommending that we form an agrarian revolt and overthrow the government, but I feel that we need to be less tolerant of abuse of power from our leaders.
He's an elected official. He works for us.
It's review time.
