The Zune is Seriously Weak
I've tried really hard to say nice things about the Zune, seeing as how I went out to buy one (actually two) when I really didn't need one, but this is pretty much it.
I also have a Zen Vision:M. And it is better than my Zune in every way except screen size. It does everything the Zune does (well... there's no wireless functionality, but since I've never used that anyway, who gives a shit?) and more.
And now I can't seem to update my Zune.
The 1.3 version of the firmware has been released - I'm running 1.2 - and Zune thinks everything is fine. No, really. It's perfectly content to not upgrade itself. In fact, it insists.
It is, apparently, completely up to date, and I should just stop worrying my pretty head about it, which I would do, except for the fact that over half of my music collection seems to suffer from a bug (that may or may not be fixed in 1.3 - I wouldn't know) which cuts off the first 2-3 seconds of each song.
I'm seriously considering going back to the Vision:M.
UPDATE: I'm the one at fault here. The Zune Desktop software was a pre-release version that I thought I'd already updated. I still find it a bit suspect that it wouldn't update to a new, released version simply because its version number didn't exactly match what was expected, but at least the problem has been solved. I now like my Zune again.
